UET’s Ongoing Support of Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Light the Night Event Culminates with Shaved Head for VP Business Development
United Energy Trading once again showed our support for the Denver community with our participation in the Annual Light the Night event in September. Light the Night is a fundraising and awareness event by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). We have participated for the past 10 years, raising a total of over $360,000 for research into blood cancers and treatments that save lives. This year alone we raised a total of $100,295 to support the mission of the LLS.
VP of Business Development at UET, Tim Penney, pledged to shave his head if our fundraising reached over $100,000 in 2022. On November 10, Penney will face the clippers to show UET’s dedication to supporting cancer research, and our solidarity with those we know who have been affected by cancer’s hair loss.
UET’s dedication to fundraising for the fight against cancer stems from employees and friends who have been affected by cancer diagnoses. Our president, Tom Smith, lost his brother, Tim, to the illness. Our employee Jeff Lines has also been impacted by a diagnosis, undergoing a bone marrow transplant in 2007. Other friends and family have faced a blood cancer diagnosis and undergone treatment, like Alex Barker, a family friend of Deidre Neumann, Kasey Williams and Shanna Urlacher.
With all of these personal experiences, we are dedicated to helping the LLS as much as we can. In 2017, UET became the first Friends & Family team to break $50,000 in donations. In 2018 United Energy Trading received an award in recognition of our decade-long service to LLS’ s cause. Tom Williams, President of UET, said of receiving that award in 2018, “Our team has been dedicated to this cause for 10+ years, so we are delighted to receive such an honor and recognition from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.”
