Denver, CO, October 10, 2017 –(PR.com)– United Energy Trading (UET), parent company to Blue Spruce Energy and Kratos Energy has proudly earned the honor of top donations collected by friends and family for the charity Light The Night, a foundation dedicated to funding research for blood cancers. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) works closely with Light The Night, not only find a cure for blood cancers, but also to provide a network of information and access to treatment for patients in the United States and Canada. Within their widespread system of volunteers and contributors, Light The Night fights for the rights of those afflicted by lobbying Congress and the House of Representatives to accelerate access to cures and vote on legislation to improve the quality of life of those suffering.
This multi-faceted charity caught the attention of UET employee, Heather Kinghorn, in 2007. She believes those around her were compelled to help when members within the UET family were diagnosed with leukemia. Heather was quoted as saying: “After seeing not only the personal battle of those suffering but also the way it affected the family members around them, you realize that it is your obligation to continue to fight for this cause.”
Account for almost 1 out of 3 cancers, leukemia is the most common cancer in children and teens. Most childhood leukemias are acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL). Most of the remaining cases are acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
About 98 percent of children with ALL go into remission within weeks after starting treatment. About 90 percent of those children can be cured. Patients are considered cured after 10 years in remission.
Participating every year since 2003, UET has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Light The Night as well as family and friends joining in a 2 mile walk around Washington Park in Denver, Colorado. This year they earned the top fundraising spot in the Friends and Family category. Totaling over $52,000 in donations, UET employees worked tirelessly imploring their neighbors, co-workers, and relatives to contribute to their cause. Driven by compassion and empathy for those suffering in silence, UET employees show a workplace that is united by generosity and hard work.
